What is the barn special building?

The barn is one of the special buildings that appear at road stops — the ones that announce themselves with a name and a difficulty rating instead of blending in like ordinary houses. That rating is the giveaway: special stops pay far better than houses for the same time budget, and the barn’s banner marks it at two stars.

What makes the barn different from the other special stops is the NPC waiting outside: a black-suited figure with a briefcase standing under the shed in front of the red barn.

Talk to him and a dialogue card introduces him by name: Detective Jack Hollow. The objective is stated plainly — finish the barn to get the detective helper. What the helper actually does once recruited isn’t demonstrated in the recording, so treat “recruit Jack Hollow” as the confirmed reward and his abilities as unverified.

How to clear the barn

The defense inside the barn runs as a wave fight — the on-screen counter tracks the wave number (from 1/5 up to 5/5) and the remaining entities, so you always know exactly how much is left. The simple clear shown in the recording comes down to three steps:

1. Open the barn door. Walk up to the big wooden door and press E — the interaction prompt reads Unlock Barn Door.

2. Go to the wall. Don’t fight in the open. Position yourself at the barn’s inner wall and let the zombies come to you — they gather in front of the wall in a tight group instead of surrounding the building.

3. Hit them through the boards. Attack from your position at the wall — swings and shots connect through the planks while the wave counter ticks down.

The same funnel logic is what the checkpoint guide recommends for the checkpoint rescue zones: one narrow front beats a circle every time. And if your iron sword is still in the bag from the beginner route, this is exactly where it earns its slot.

What loot does the barn give?

Finishing the barn opens its loot — and this is where the “expensive items” line from the run pays off. The recording shows the post-clear inventory holding a Trophy item card, tagged Valuable, Sellable, and Collection with a $130 sell price, sitting right next to a Shield.

That fits the keep-or-sell split from the selling guide: the trophy is pure income, and the shield is a keep candidate if you’re still running cloth armor this late in the run.

Can you fight while the bus is moving?

Yes — you can attack zombies from the bus while it rides to the next stop, with one catch: you have to aim at the hitbox for the hit to register. Spraying in the general direction of a latched-on zombie wastes swings; line up the reticle on its body before you commit.
